What do I mean when I ask, “Is Ai taking over the real world?” I’m asking because, like many people, I’m no longer sure what’s real. With fake news, clickbait, and digital noise filling every corner of modern life, it’s harder than ever to trust anything you see online.
As someone who has spent a lifetime studying and practicing photography, this paradigm shift hits close to home. A well-composed photo used to be admired. Now people question everything. The first reaction is often, “Is it real or Ai?” And honestly? I understand why.
Opinions Everywhere, Facts Optional
Webster defines “opinion” as a view or judgment not necessarily based on fact.
Boy howdy, does that describe today’s online world.
I’ve admitted many times that I’m charmingly antique. Back in the day, we had three TV channels plus the educational channel. Our 19″ Philco sat across the living room like a piece of furniture. As the oldest kid, I was the designated channel-changer.
Now I’m typing this on a 27″ screen connected to a machine capable of more than anyone in 1970 could have imagined. And back then, we trusted news anchors like Cronkite, and Huntley-Brinkley. They gave us the facts, and we formed our own opinions.
What a concept.

Is Ai Taking Over the Real World Through Algorithms?
Competition was simple when we had only four TV channels. Today we have thousands. Everyone is fighting for attention just to sell ads. The Yellow Pages? What are those?
Meanwhile, I’m over here trying to grow a following so I can share something meaningful. I appreciate the hundreds of people who do follow my work, but artists everywhere are burning out. We create to inspire, yet algorithms decide who gets seen.
If no one sees your work, how do you inspire anyone?
Sensationalism Wins Online
YouTube and Facebook dominate the modern attention span. If you want to rank, sensationalism is the formula. When I trained thousands of employees for major corporations, we had a simple rule:
- A happy customer tells 3 people.
- An unhappy one tells 12.
On social media, those numbers explode. Negative content performs better, so algorithms push negativity. That’s why Facebook fills itself with clickbait designed to provoke reactions.
And let’s not forget the “experts”… When you build a big enough following then suddenly people treat you like one, whether you know anything or not.

The Content Treadmill
When YouTube first launched, creators got paid well. But as more videos flooded the internet, creators had to grind nonstop just to stay visible. Many lost their lives to the algorithm…creating content around the clock.
Now Ai tools generate content in seconds. Fakery is everywhere. Trust is rare. New Facebook groups pop up daily, filled with people asking strangers for advice instead of seeking reliable sources.
Really? Facebook is the first place we go for expertise?
Meanwhile, Zuckyboy sails around on three mega-yachts.
Ai Steps Fully Into the Spotlight
Ai isn’t new. It’s existed since 1956. The big boom came after 2020 when technology caught up. The pandemic gave everyone more screen time, and creators jumped on Ai because it saves huge amounts of time.
Like any tool, Ai can be used well or used poorly. Unfortunately, Ai learns from us, and we tend to click on negativity. So the models learn negativity too.

Stopping the Scroll
Today you have about five seconds to stop someone from scrolling past your work. If a video goes viral, Ai and algorithms will push it even further. Our habits shape what we see next.
To be clear, I’m not anti-Ai. I write my own posts. I’m not a great typist, and I make mistakes. Ai can take my old posts and rewrite them in seconds, using my voice with no typos.
Is that good? I’m not sure. It saves time, which none of us can buy more of, but what does it cost in the long run?
The Real Threat: Ai Cloning
Here’s where the question comes back: Is Ai taking over the real world?
Because Ai can now clone me. My voice. My face. My mannerisms.
And the scariest part? Anyone else can do it too.
All they need is public content: photos, videos, audio clips. A scammer could call my family using my cloned voice. A single recorded phone call could give them enough to impersonate me.
Many people store all their passwords in one “convenient” app without knowing who owns the company behind it. Combine that with Ai voice cloning and you have a dangerous cocktail. How many others store their passwords in that company too? How many other companies does that company own in different names? Danger Will Robinson!
Your fingerprint opens your phone. Your face opens your bank app. Some people have lost money because a partner held a phone to their sleeping face, accessed their account, and then took all the money and left.
That’s not the bank’s fault. We traded caution for convenience.

Use Your Brain – It’s Your Best Defense
Most Americans live east of the 100th parallel. With so many people relying on digital systems, a few smart criminals with Ai could cause massive damage overnight.
I’m not saying Ai is evil. It’s a runaway train; powerful, unstoppable, and here to stay. But we need to protect ourselves because not everyone will use Ai for good. We lock our doors not for the masses, but for the few who can’t be trusted.
So what do we do? Should I create my own Ai clone? Should I let a machine type for me? It sounds tempting, but what’s the long-term impact?
Is Ai Taking Over the Real World, or Are We Finally Paying Attention?
Social media is losing steam because we’ve drowned ourselves in unreality. We’ve been burned so many times that skepticism has become our natural instinct.
And maybe, just maybe, that’s the smartest lesson we’ve learned in this digital age.

FAQ: Is AI Taking Over the Real World?
1. Is Ai actually taking over, or is it just hype?
Ai isn’t taking over… people are just overwhelmed. It’s moving fast, louder than ever, and everyone’s shouting their “expert” opinion online. The real issue isn’t Ai itself… it’s that we no longer trust what we see.
2. Why does everything online feel fake now?
Because algorithms reward reactions, not reality. Clickbait gets more traction than facts, and Ai tools learn from whatever garbage people engage with. That’s why everything feels like smoke and mirrors.
3. Should I be worried about Ai clones?
Yes! But be smart, not scared. Anyone can clone a voice or photo from public content. The danger isn’t the tech… it’s how easily people trust anything that “sounds real.” Your brain is still your best security tool.
4. Is social media still worth it for artists and creators?
It’s tough. Algorithms bury real creators while boosting sensational junk. But if you show up consistently and offer value, your voice can still cut through the noise… it just takes more intention than it used to.
5. What can I do to protect myself from Ai scams?
Use your head. Don’t trust unknown callers. Store all your passwords in one place, your brain! Don’t assume a video or voice is real. And for the love of common sense, don’t rely on Facebook groups for life advice.
Ok Some Inspiration
Honestly I’d much rather be inspirational than informing my fellow Photographers and readers of the dangers of Ai… the above text was offered as a public service message.
Inspirationally? Use the positive side of Ai… don’t be scared of it. In the case of this post I used Ai to check my spelling and punctuation. Hey if Ai blew it somewhere it’s not my fault. ^_^
I use Ai for light editing of my own images. Remember I said light editing! If I wish to add a boat to a lake scene in one of my images, I’ll Photograph the boat and the lake, and put them together.
Yes, sometimes I replace skies in my images. Not with somebody else’s sky but with one I took. There are times we take great effort in planning our excursions. I can’t predict the weather. We get what we get and don’t throw a fit. However that blue sky is simply just boring! (unless you make it black in a B&W *_^ )
It’s my art. I’ll make it my own using any ethical method I choose.
The Bottom Line
Ai is here to stay. Like anything else it can do good things and it can do bad things. I think we should focus MUCH more on the positive! Then we are training Ai for positive results over negative ones.
Here is a new twist… It would be nice if you forwarded my blog post to others! That’s positive! ^_^
