Garrett is, without question, gifted both photographically as well as socially. Lots of people have hobbies, but his ability to convey that passion and your camera’s technicalities to an amateur is a whole different animal. I found, within the first 14 minutes, I had learned things I did not know about my camera and its functions. The time will fly by, all because he’ll chose subjects for you to shoot, determined by your initially conveyed interests. You cannot help but absorb his enthusiasm for photography and for the outdoors. If you have any interest in becoming a better photographer, this is the guy you want to learn from. You will not regret this experience with him, and I am sure I will be using him again with future experiences! Just tell him what you want to know and take notes from a true master. I’ve on multiple PhotoSafaris with Garrett. The question what did I get from them is hard to answer, because it’s more like what didn’t you get? Knowing your camera is one. If you don’t know all the capabilities of your camera, you’ll learn that and more. Garrett’s system of teaching simplifies what I thought was confusing. How to get the perfect shot without the perfect conditions in lighting. Looking for things you never see and the angles and positions in when to take them and so on. At the last safari I learned quite a few things that surprised me, including how to use my camera in ways I haven’t considered, perspective, and a better understanding of how important viewing angle difference is to various forms of photography. I expect everyone to get something different out of it, but it’s another thing to go out and shoot hands on, get suggestions for how to shoot something specific, actually practicing what you learn, etc. If you’re serious about photography and improving, the experience of learning with Garrett is awesome! Completely blown away! I booked this because I wanted to go on a cool hike, but way more importantly I wanted to take better photos. After spending the day with Garrett I learned so much more than I have in 2+ years of using my camera. I let him know what I wanted and what I felt I needed help with and he focused entirely on those things throughout the day. He takes his time to help each person individually, and helps you to see different ways of looking for shots. If I could give Garrett more then 5 stars I most definitely would! This experience is absolutely worth every penny. Garrett is very easy to talk to, extremely knowledgeable about photography and the city. He enthusiastic about his work, he obviously loves what he does. What set this experience above any other was his ability to personalize it. After introducing himself, he started off by asking each of us “what do you want to learn?” Throughout the evening he shared his expertise at my level to ensure I learned what I wanted to learn and so much more!
