Spring doesn’t arrive all at once out here.
It eases in… quiet at first… like a breath you didn’t know you were holding finally letting go.
The cold backs off a little. The light hangs around longer. The wind still cuts some days, but it’s got a different feel now. Not harsh… just honest.
And if you’re paying attention… really paying attention… you’ll notice the land starting to stir.
This is the season when the mustangs get restless.
The studs move different… heads high… muscles tight… watching everything. There’s tension in the air you can feel in your chest if you stand still long enough. They circle, they posture, they fight when they have to.
Dust kicks up… hooves thunder…
And for a moment, you’re looking at something that hasn’t changed in a hundred years.
Maybe longer.

New Life Standing on Unsteady Legs
Tucked just off to the side of all that energy…
New life.
A foal, still unsteady… legs too long… trying to figure out how to belong to this world. Mama standing close… ears up… watching you long before you ever notice her.
That little one doesn’t know anything yet…
But it knows enough to stay close.
And that’s all it needs right now.
There’s something about that moment that settles a person.
Reminds you what matters.
Most Folks Don’t See This Anymore
Most folks these days don’t see any of this.
They live stacked on top of each other… traffic instead of wind… screens instead of sky. Days measured by notifications instead of sunlight.
And after a while…
They forget.
Not their fault… just the way things have gone.
But the truth is simple.
Every one of us came from this.
From people who woke with the light… who read the weather in the distance… who understood animals not from documentaries, but from living alongside them.
Folks who knew that spring wasn’t just a date on a calendar…
It was survival.
Renewal.
A second chance every single year.
If it wasn’t for that way of life…
None of us would be here.
And little by little…
It’s being forgotten.

The Wild Is Still Out There Waiting
That’s why this time of year matters.
Because it’s still out there… waiting.
The mustangs don’t care about deadlines. They don’t care about your phone. They don’t even know the world has changed.
Spring comes…
And they answer it the same way they always have.
And you can too.
But you’ve got to go.
You’ve got to leave the noise behind… drive a little farther than’s convenient… step out where the air smells like dust and sage.
Stand still long enough for your thoughts to settle.
Watch.
Listen.
Let it come to you.
You might see a stallion push another off his band… or a foal take those first unsure steps… or a whole herd move across the land like they’ve got somewhere important to be.
Even if that “somewhere” is just staying wild.
And somewhere in all of that…
Something in you shifts.
Slows down.
Softens.
Remembers.

Spring Wakes Everything… Not Just Horses
And it’s not just the horses.
Spring wakes everything up.
Birds start talking again before the sun’s even over the ridge. Deer move easier… less cautious. The desert greens up in places you swore were dead just weeks ago.
Life pushes through cracks you didn’t even see before.
It’s all happening.
Right now.
Whether you show up or not.

You Won’t Find This on Your Phone
Here’s the truth most folks don’t want to hear…
You won’t see any of it sitting at home on the couch… buried in your phone.
You won’t feel it through a screen.
You’ve got to go meet it where it lives.

Get Out There This Spring
So this spring…
Do yourself a favor.
Get out there.
Take a drive down a road you’ve never bothered with. Pull over when something catches your eye. Walk a little slower than you think you should.
Stay a little longer than makes sense.
Watch the mustangs.
Watch the new life.
Watch the land wake up.
And remember…
This isn’t just scenery.
This is where you came from.
And if you let it…
It’ll show you something about where you’re headed too.
