We will be based out of the Death Valley Inn in Beatty Nevada. I have a block of rooms reserved at special pricing of 85.00 per night plus taxes. Check In will be April 3rd and check out April 5th.
What We Will Photograph
Basically Rhyolite and all that entails, both day time, and return after dark to light paint the region. There are several Ruins to Light Paint and an old vehicle or two. Even an old Railway Car. Yes the Milky Way is also possible but don’t count on that. At this time of year the Core of the Milky Way is not visible until 3:00am and it will be blocked by a mountain. I will be doing a Milky Way Seminar in May, June, July, August, and September.
There are also many cool things to shoot around Beatty. Boats, Planes and Trains… I’ll show you some stuff!
Gear Needed:
Because we are Light Painting almost any camera will do. You will also need a tripod. A lens in the 24-70 range is perfect. You should know how to set ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture for your camera. A headlamp with both a white and red light is helpful.
Also bring a folding lawn chair!
We will light paint with a multitude of different lighting options… so if you’ve got ’em bring ’em. I’ll be using external flashes and flashlights.
Dress: This is dirty and dusty country so dress accordingly. Temperatures can fluctuate widely so dressing in layers is best. These events will NOT be cancelled due to weather! We get what we get, and won’t throw a fit! There are several weather apps available to you on a smart phone. I’ve never had a problem locating Beatty Nevada as a location in any app I’ve ever used.
Food: There are a few restaurants in Beatty and there are also Bar B Que Facilities at the hotel by the pool. FOOD AND LODGING ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. There are small refrigerators and a microwave in each room.
Editing:
I can do an editing session in the Hotel Meeting Room. You would need to have a laptop to follow along or if you like simply watch. This will not be an education for beginners! You should have some knowledge of at least LightRoom Classic. PhotoShop knowledge is a plus. Remember… If what I’m showing is over your head? Simply watch and take notes.
